Petridonus cachinnis (Happy Birthday Pete!) by Sanrou Petridonus cachinnis (Happy Birthday Pete!) by Sanrou
Happy Birthday :iconpalaeorigamipete:!
I hope you are having a awesome day, man. All the best for you. :D

Petridonus cachinnis is a policapta that roams through the lowest parts of Eden Valley. Being omnivorous and eating almost everything, their most clear characteristic it's the sound: they emit a long, loud and strong call that is much similar to a human laugh.

Sorry for murdering the english language (corrections and suggestions are welcome) Sweating a little...

:-? (Confused)  Which part of those creatures' bodies are their eyes? :sherlock: revamp

The eyes are the black dots at the end of the short tentacles at the front, the mushroom-like structures are used for hearing, and the blue circles in their mandibular head are infrared sensors.  :)

:) (Smile) Oh. I see. So they act as an extra pair of eyes that can only detect heat signals (similar to the eyes of snakes Snake emoticon)?

Exactly. Their infrared vision is a bit more complex, though.  Nod

While snakes have a heat-sensitive membrana, the policata presents a pair of ocular organs as domed lens which encapsulate a inward cone-shape structure filled with hundreds of heat sensors, with the outer ones being more specialized higher frequencies of light, gradually changing to lower frequencies (to almost human-visible light).

I'll do a graphical representation in the future to better explain this. Sweating a little...

Damn, that's cool! It's so great to see your creations in the context of their environment. I hope you considering doing more pieces like this, or at least demonstrating how these organisms behave, the composition of their habitats, etc.
